14th December marks 14 years to one of the most loved family dramas of Bollywood ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’, or as we fondly call it- ‘K3G’. The film had a huge star cast of mega superstars Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Jaya Bachchan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor, Farida Jalal, Alok Nath and Rani Mukherjee.
We bring to you certain points that made the movie worth watching innumerable times.
1. SRK-Kajol Chemistry:
They share the best chemistry in B-town and can amaze you with their incredible performances every time they come together. Be it Baazigar, DDLJ, K3G, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai or My Name Is Khan. And this movie showed us a completely another side of our beloved Raj and Simran. They played this cute couple who love each other and have silly fights. SRK played a hen-pecked husband with perfection.
2. Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan:
A big reason why people entered the movie theatres was to watch the evergreen on-screen and off-screen couple, play adorable parents to SRK and Hrithik. And they managed to create the same magic after all these years again.
3. Hrithik Roshan- Kareena Kapoor:
The Jodi of Hrithik and Kareena was undoubtedly the biggest sensation back then! The two have set the screen on fire every time they come together. In this movie too, they looked adorable in ‘Bole Chudiyaan’ and hot in ‘You Are My Soniya’. A hot couple during those days, sadly not seen together anymore.
4. Amitabh Bachchan- SRK- Hrithik Roshan:
A combination that made the movie worth a watch. And Karan Johar made it possible to bring the three superstars together. Be it the father-son chemistry between Big B and SRK/Hrithik or the extended and emotional bromance between SRK and Hrithik in the second half….people wanted more of it. So much more….that a sequel was being planned. (Thankfully, the sequel didn’t happen!)
5. Emotional Drama:
Indian’s love drama! Be it the regular saas-bahu soaps or this larger than life KJo family drama that required everyone in the theatre to enter with a box of tissue paper. Much before Taare Zameen Par, this movie explained the emotional connect between a mother and her son. *sob sob*
6. Suraj Hua Maddham:
And lastly…the one song that comes to our mind every time we want to hear a Bollywood romantic song- ‘Suraj Hua Maddham’. Beautiful sceneries, brilliant song and every one’s favorite couple- SRK and Kajol along with some iconic SRK-signature steps.
While Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was considered as a fluke for Karan Johar, he proved his mettle with this movie. The emotional content, the high budget sets and costumes gave us a new brand. Brand KJo. Wish we get to see more of such family-drama’s than movies that are desperate attempts to reach the 100 Crore club.
