1942 A Love Story: The Essence Lingers On

1942 starring Anil Kapoor, Manisha Koirala, Danny Denzongpa, Anupam Kher and Jacky Shroff and Pran is our pick of the week for retro Tuesday. The film was highly acclaimed for its music, songs, cinematography, lyrics and Manisha Koirala's performance. This continues to be one of the must watch Bollywood films of all time.

It was the first film in Bollywood to use Dolby Stereo.

The film was nominated for almost all awards that year for all departments.

The role of Rajjo was initially offered to Madhuri Dixit but she could not do it due to date problems.

This was maestro R D Burman's last film as a music director before his death.

Although the film was set around the 1942 Quit India movement, it did not loose the essence of the love story.

Manisha Koirala was reluctant to do the kissing scene in the movie, as she was concerned about her image in the industry.
