Claps for: Everyone's excellent performances and chemistry.
Slaps for: An extremely lengthy narrative.
Popcorn Refill: Many
The Story: 2 States is the story of a young couple in love from different cultural backgrounds. Krish (Arjun Kapoor) and Ananya (Alia Bhatt) fall in love while studying MBA. Their love story gets complicated when the parents meet each other and realize the disparity in their backgrounds. The film revolves around the couple trying to make the parents like each other.
Performance: Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor portray their roles with utmost ease. Their chemistry is refreshing and believable. Amrita Singh is a delight to watch as a nagging and pained mother. She is so good that you actually get riled up at her at certain instances. Ronit Roy as Krish's father is befitting his role and so is the effervescent Revathy as Ananya's mother.
On a Musical Note: The soundtrack by Shankar, Ehsan and Loy is average. It can be startling and unnecessarily overdramatic at certain instances. This is definitely not their finest work. The songs are mediocre too and do not add much value.
Combo on Offer: 2 States is a lengthy film with a good plot. The direction seems a bit jerky at times and vague at some others. In spite of good performances by everyone you cant help but wander. It would have been an excellent crisp film had it not been for the exhausting length it is and maybe a fewer songs. Overall it is an average film with great actors.
Our Verdict: We give 2 States Claps for good performances and that's about it.
