5 Bollywood Movies Where Rains Played An Important Role

Bollywood and rains go hand in hand. Nearly every second movie has a rainy season attached to it. Usually, the monsoon is associated with romance, and the rest of the times it is associated with killing. However, rain in such scenes only forms a backdrop to make the scene look intense.

Hence, we bring to you a list of those movies where rain plays an important part in the film; and by an important part, we mean that without the rains, the story wouldn’t have moved forward!

1. My Name Is Khan:

my name is khan

Had it not been for the terrible rains and flood in Wilhelmina, Georgia, the public and the government officials wouldn’t have noticed the hero in the autistic Rizwan Khan (played by Shah Rukh Khan). It was because of his friends Mama Jenny and Funny Hair Joel, that Khan rushed back to help the citizens of the place on hearing about their bad conditions due to a Hurricane; and in return got all the media attention which helped him achieve his goal of meeting the President and tell him “My Name Is Khan, and I am not a terrorist”.

2. Tum Mile:

tum mile

The movie was about how two ex-lovers Akshay and Sanjana (played by Emraan Hashmi and Soha Ali Khan respectively) find their way back into each other’s life; Courtesy: the disastrous rains on 26th July, 2005 in Mumbai. Perhaps, had it not been the floods due to heavy rains, Akshay wouldn’t have bothered going out of his way to make sure Sanjana survives!

3. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai:

kuch kuch hota hai

We have seen several songs where the heroine gets drenched in the rains wearing a chiffon saree and the hero just cannot resist from holding her tight kissing her neck. And another addition to this was that scene from ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ where we see Rahul (Shah Rukh Khan) and Anjali (Kajol) dancing to the tunes of the title song. They, and all the fans of the movie, surely need to thank the Rain Gods as it was because of him that the two found shelter inside the gazebo and realized that there is still some chemistry between the two, even after eight years of separation.

4. Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi:

rab ne bana di jodi

The emphasis on rain has been right from the very start in this movie; be it enjoying freedom when it rains or asking for something you need the most in your life, during rains, with the belief that it would get fulfilled. And the same happens a few minutes before the climax when it begins to rain, bringing in the twist, and Tani (Anushka Sharma) realizes that her freedom lies in being with Raj and not her husband Surinder Sahni (both played by Shah Rukh Khan). And to make things more complicated, she meets Raj and asks him to take her away from her “boring” husband, as it is her wish from the rains to get someone who loves her and she thinks she has found that lover in Raj. So had it not been because of the rains, Suri wouldn’t have revealed his identity to his wife and the love story wouldn’t have been a complete one! *deep feels*

5. Dhamaal:

sib knockout

We all need someone special in our journey of life! And for aspiring detective Roy (Riteish Deshmukh) it had to be Babu bhai (Sanjay Mishra) on his way Goa to find the big W! Had it not been the rains, Roy’s plan of running away from the dreadful gangster using a fake gun would have succeeded and he would have never found the support of Babu bhai to reach Goa.

So, next time when you sit next to the window pane enjoying the rains along with a hot cup of tea and a plate of delicious pakodas, do not forget to watch these movies and thank us for reminding you how important rains can be *winks*
