A few offbeat movies got some moxie. They are based on the true essence of existentialism and some real fundas of life cutting the case of redundant rigmarole. They do not make an effort to 'teach' you anything per se. Unlike tear jerking Bollywood blockbusters, which are an epitome of flakiness, these movies, give you pure entertainment and make you think.
You Don't Mess With The Zohan is a burlesque on the whole idea of war per se. Adam Sandler's buffoonery as a bionic herculean man who has a secret passion of being a hairstylist is quite comic. This movie has a lighthearted take on Israeli and Palestinian war. You can expect some risqué humour if it's Adam Sandler or Sasha Baron Cohen for that matter. Get your pack of hummus and fizzy bublekh and enjoy a movie that inspires brotherhood and bromance in a very hysterical way.
The Men Who Stare at Goats is a movie that mocks the very idea of enlightenment, oh so subtly. This is about a wimpy and jilted ex-husband who wants to do something extraordinary to prove a point to his ex-wife. He gets a job as a journalist and decides to explore the psychic war soldiers who claim to get information using remote viewing and kinetic techniques. It is loosely based on a book by the same name, written by Jon Ronson. This movie is a satirical take on war, enlightenment and all the jazz related to heaven and hell. It intelligently explores the idea that no matter how 'enlightened' you are, end of day you too have no choice but work for a bureaucrat. This movie inspires you to have a very realistic approach in life and look at the lighter side of life, coz you won't get away alive anyway.
Matt Damon and Ben Affleck wrote GoodWill Hunting. This movie is about a 20 something genius kid who has been abused so badly that he discounts his own potential. Matt is a genius at math and science who learns a great deal spending time in the library and working as a cleaner in daytime. A professor at the University recognises his genius and wants to help him through his chaos and give him a chance to study. Matt has given up the hope of being understood and becomes increasingly difficult to deal with. Nobody is able to get through to him. Robin Williams who is a professor of Psychology helps him unburden his past baggage and sets him a free man. This movie inspires the value of a true teacher or a mentor and the difference they can make in our lives no matter what complexities entangle us.
Pay It Forward is a very touching movie about a kid who does little things everyday to make this world a better place. Kevin spacey is a teacher at his school who gives him an assignment to do something good each day, for a year. This act of an eleven-year-old kid starts a revolution and inspires many to do the same. A journalist is trying to explore the originator of this chain and finally gets to interview the kid. This movie is about doing something good for people every day and inspiring them to pay it forward.
Click is a slapstick sci-fi comedy by Adam Sandler. It is a story about a family man trying to make it big in the corporate ladder, while ignoring to spend valuable time with his family. Michael Newman is a workaholic who resents spending time with family as he spends all his time working. He stumbles upon a remote that lets him fast forward any activity or event he considers monotonous. He keeps forwarding it to a time where there is point of no return and has missed all the important occasions in his family. This is any day better than a KJO movie that is always trying so hard to make a point about keeping the family together. In the end he resumes his normal life after a rollercoaster ride with the remote and skipping all the occasions.
