Anurag Kashyap's 'Bombay Velvet' is set to hit the silver screens this week. People are raving about Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma's retro looks and, how they felt like being transported back to the 60s era.
So, we decided to bring you 7 films which captured the retro essence.
1. Om Shanti Om
'Om Shanti Om' is a 'reincarnated' tale of two lovers and, how they discover about their past life. Shah Rukh Khan wore colorful t-shirts inside the jackets and sported gelled hair. Right from the eye make-up to the churidars and fishtail sarees, Deepika Padukone looked every bit of a 'Dreamy Girl'.
Lootera, set in the 1950s period, is a love story of Pakhi (Sonakshi Sinha) and Varun (Ranveer Singh). The costumes, donned by both the actors, gave a vintage feel to the viewers. Sonakshi's sarees and blouse designs became hugely popular.
3. Action Replayy
The film replayed the colorful era of the 80s. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan looked chic, wearing those polka dotted shirts, short skirts, wayfarers and heavy chunky jewellery. Akshay Kumar sported leather jackets and bell-bottom pants.
4. The Dirty Picture
The film was a biopic of the Southern siren, Silk Smitha. Vidya Balan's polka dotted cholis to gothic black skirts, figure hugging pants and the glitzy Amrapalis, had a sensual touch. The male leads sported pencil moustache, which was common, during that period.
5. Once Upon A Time In Mumbai
The film represented the dynamic gangster gripped Bombay of the 80's. Prachi Desai was seen wearing bell bottom suits while Ajay Devgn sported Pathanis, which gave him a gangster look of that era.
The film was set in Kolkata, in the 1970s. It was the story of two inseparable friends, who later become sworn enemies. Priyanka Chopra played a cabaret dancer of the 70s.
7. Detective Byomkesh Bakshy
The film against the backdrop of Calcutta, has a dhoti clad Sushant Singh Rajput, in a typical Bengali avatar.
