7 Lesser Known Facts About Tezaab (1988)

Tezaab, released in the year 1988, instantly became a cult classic and propelled its stars, Anil Kapoor, and Madhuri Dixit, to superstardom status. So much so, that we recently got to hear from reliable sources that director N Chandra is planning a sequel to his blockbuster. 26 years on, Tezaab is still remembered for its raw, grungy look, and the catchy 'Ek Do Teen' number. Here. We list down 7 lesser known facts about this iconic movie.

1. This film is based on the 1984 Hollywood film, Streets of Fire.

2. The track “So gaya yeh jahan” was supposed to be sung by Kishore Kumar initially. But the legendary singer's untimely death resulted in the song ultimately being sung by Nitin Mukesh.

3. The 'Ek Do Teen' track was initially criticized upon reception. It became a cult hit after the release of the film.

4. The producer of this film, Dinesh Gandhi, soon started getting extortion calls from the Mumbai underworld after the release of the film.

5. This was Madhuri's first major role, and her first Filmfare nomination for the best actress.

6. Govinda was supposed to play the role of Babban, which eventually went to Chunky Pandey.

7. Anil Kapoor left the movie Damini to do this film. A good decision too, as he won the Filmfare award for the best actor. That role in damini went to Sunny Deol, who won a National Award for the best supporting actor. A win-win situation, if ever there was one!
