Its nothing but sheer talent and excellent direction skills that make Rajkumar Hirani the renowned director he is. Having written and directed four movies so far, three of them have been huge blockbusters and even termed as classics!
While his fourth directorial venture 'P.K' gears up for release next month, we bring to you certain similarities between all his three movies- 'Munnabhai MBBS', 'Lage Raho Munnabhai' and '3 Idiots'; along with what we have noticed in the trailers and songs of 'P.K' till now.
1) Socially Loved Protagonist:
What made the audiences fall in love with Munnabhai and Rancho was their ability to connect with the people around them, their problems and be their shining knight in times of difficulties. These are men with big hearts having small and sufficient dreams. Rajkumar Hirani's heroes are loved and accepted whether they enter a medical college or an engineering college or even if he is an RJ who follows the path of Mahatma Gandhi.
And if we go by the trailers, P.K too has “galtiyaan sudhaarne ki aadatâ€.
2) Comic Antagonist:
There has been one man, who has always filled the shoes of the antagonist in Rajkumar Hirani movies- Boman Irani. These are men who aren't famous, but excel in their fields, be it Dr.Asthana, the businessman Lucky Singh or Virus (as we fondly know him). He is hated by all till the end where a change of heart takes place (or as Munna says- “Hridayparivartanâ€). Through these characters, Hirani has always shown is that every person has a good side too and all it takes is love and patience to change them.
Ever imagined how colorless Rajkumar Hirani's vision would have been without the funny, goofy and adorable sidekicks who could even give their life for the hero. Be it Circuit, Raju or Farhan; these boys have always been a support to the hero and were equally loved by all.
In 'P.K' too it is Sanjay Dutt who supports P.K.
4) Important Female Lead:
In today's commercial cinema where a female lead is just used as mere eye-candy, Rajkumar Hirani has given us strong, independent and ambitious characters that are an important part of the script. Be it Dr.Suman in 'Munnabhai MBBS', RJ Jahnvi in 'Lage Raho Munnabhai' or Pia in '3 Idiots'.
Surely, Anushka Sharma too would have an important and strong character in 'P.K'.
5) Different World for the Protagonist:
It was a sudden personal decision for Munnabhai to enter the world of science and join a medical college.
It was again an emotional reason for Munnabhai, the man who is known for his violent methods, to get into the world of Gandhigiri and become an RJ.
Or wasn't it odd for Phunsukh Wangdu to change his identity and study in an engineering college on behalf of someone else?
Rajkumar Hirani puts his lead characters in different circumstances who despite all the difficulties and pressure win everyone's hearts.
In 'P.K' too, Aamir is believed to be from a different planet for who this planet's cultures and philosophies are different and strange.
6) Female Lead's First Impression About Male Lead- “SUCH A WEIRDOâ€:
Remember how Dr.Suman reacted when she met Munna for the first time in the Medical College?
Or when RJ Jahnvi found Professor Murli Prasad Sharma to be weird before the mic in the studio?
Surely, you do remember the hatred Pia had for this guy who had gate-crashed into her sister's wedding, giving her free advices about her fiancée.
In P.K too, Anushka considers her friend to be a “namoonaâ€.
7) Suicidal Tendencies:
What's common between Raju Rastogi (played by Sharman Joshi), Joy Lobo (played by Ali Fazal) and the patient in Munnbhai MBBS who didn't get the girl he loved? Yes, they all tried committing suicide; with Joy being the only successful one.
Even Jimmy Shergill's character was on the verge of committing suicide before RJ Munna came to his rescue.
Rajkumar Hirani has always created a realistic world of his own with characters that have connected to the audience and issues that are faced by all; presenting them all in a slice-of-life and entertaining fiction movie. These movies are cinematic journeys about the lead actor, presenting the society with a different perspective of various issues. Let's hope 'P.K' lives upto the expectations and more importantly, upto the standards of a Rajkumar Hirani film- love, laughter, life and friendship.
