We are sure you agreed with our previous blog about the movie sequels that ended up being even better than the first one. But there are some movies, that have been a red dot on this legacy of making sequels.
These are those movies that were made just because the first one was a big hit, and certainly the producers wanted to obtain more golden eggs from this gifted hen. But after big promises and expectations the movie failed to strike a chord with both, the audiences and critics alike.
1. Dabangg 2:
And when we say audiences, we just do not mean Salman Khan fans. If 'Dabangg' was the biggest hit of 2010 entertaining the entire nation, 'Dabangg 2' was just a case of making hardcore Salman fans happy with true-blue Salmanisims. The movie lacked story, acting, direction...and everything else! The only reason why this sequel would remain in the books of the '100-crore movies' is because of having a megastar in the movie reprising his most-loved role once again!
2. Phir Hera Pheri:
If repeated jokes and forced laughters made a movie worth watching, then 'Phir Hera Pheri' would have been even better and grander than 'Hera Pheri', which is also one of the most loved comedy movies.
3. Ragini MMS 2:
'Ragini MMS' was one of its kind; experimenting with the new genre of found-footage and sex+ horror, something never seen before in a Bollywood movie. But 'Ragini MMS 2' was a sheer dissapointment, The movie did not have a single spine-chilling moment but it did have many steamy scenes, thanks to the presence of porn star Sunny Leone.
4. Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobara:
Take a classic mafia movie with a brilliant background music, terrific story, and exceptional performances by ace actors Ajay Devgn and Emraan Hashmi. Now take this story 40 years ahead, change the star cast with actors like Akshay Kumar, Imran Khan and Sonakshi Sinha who are known for their charming act more than character acts and yes, most importantly, make a it stupid love triangle. What you get is 'Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobara' where the only saving grace was the re-used background music from the first installment and the cliched heroic one-liners.
5. Golmaal Returns:
Yes, Golmaal Returns was good and funny. But when compared to the first one, the movie stands no where. While we can still watch and laugh on the same 'Golmaal' jokes again and again, while watching 'Golmaal Returns' for the second or third time would be a torture.
6. Yamla Pagla Deewana 2:
Just when the Deols had been cashing in on the new-found success theory of appearing together in family-dramas and comedy-dramas, they decided to make their memorable hit 'Yamla Pagla Deewana' into a franchise and make a sequel. And the sequel was nothing less than a kiddish one with stupid humour which made the audiences leave the theatre way before the end! Pure talent, we must say!
7. Race 2:
Abbas-Mustan's theory of making a sequel- “The first one had too many twists which kept the audiences glued to their seats. So the second one would have more twists and infact, even a twist would have a twist to it and even that twist would have a twist to it! And in the end, we would show unrealistic action sequences. And this is how, we made a 100 crore movie!â€
8. Dhoom 3:
We can still forgive Yash Raj Films for 'Neil 'N' Nikki' but we just cannot forgive them for making us waste our three hours and money on the extra-hiked ticket prices on this boring revenge-drama. 'Dhoom 3', despite of being a catchy one that keeps you stuck on your seat till the end, was a big dissapointment. The movie had unrealistic action sequences, a conjestion-suffering Aamir Khan, stupid story-line, unexplained bank-heists and yes....Uday Chopra.
