Akshay Kumar: No animosity between John Abraham & me!

Bollywood Khiladi Akshay Kumar has been winning applause lately for the kind of films he has been choosing. As the actor is now prepping up for his next film 'Baby' that releases today, he gets candid with us about his experience of working on the thriller, his upcoming film 'Brothers', the controversy surrounding 'PK' and 'Oh MY God' and much more.

How different is 'Baby' from 'Holiday'?

It deals with the same topic of terrorism in a different way. Yes, the theme is common, but apart from that it is totally different. 'Holiday' was a fictional story whereas this is a real story. We have merged 15 to 20 real stories to make this film.

The plot of Baby has been kept under wraps, so could you tell us something about the film?

There is a high command in Delhi and the Commander has selected around 25 highly skilled people and that group has been kept to kill terrorists. This is a highly confidential mission so everything has been kept under wraps from others. The group is named Baby as it is the group is in very early stage of functioning. So all this is different from Holiday as it was a very intellectual and fictional film.

Since the start of your career, you always had your favourite sets of director. Now you are working with Vipul Shah and Neeraj Pandey. So how do you bond with the directors?

We bond because the directors are making the kind of films I want to work in. That is what has happened, I did 'Waqt', 'Namastey London', 'Singh Is King', 'Aankhen', 'Action Replay' and 'Holiday' with Vipul and same is the case with Neeraj.

Do you have a cameo in Hera Pheri 3?

Nope, I am not there in 'Hera Pheri 3'. I am going to miss the film but unfortunately I am not going to do it.

Is there any animosity among you and John?

No not at all. In fact, I just spoke to John and I always knew that he was replacing me in 'Welcome Back' and 'Hera Pheri 3'. I was never a part of 'Hera Pheri 3' nor did I have dates to do it.

You have redefined Action time and again, so how was your experience of shooting for Action scenes in 'Baby' using the Octocopter Drone?

It was a fantastic experience. With the Drone you can get some fantastic shots because that's the thing what other cameras cannot do and it goes higher than you can imagine. You get a great eagle's point of view. While shooting for chase sequences the camera comes behind you without anyone running. Technology helps a lot. The action in Baby is very real and it does not go above the character. It is not like one person is hitting 15 to 20 people.

Is this the most thrilling film you have been a part of?

I have been a part of many thrillers but yes this is one of my favourite films.

Was this your toughest Action oriented role till date?

I have done so many roles and now I am doing 'Brothers' which is one of the most toughest Action Roles ever.

How do you manage to balance in between different genres?

I love it. Sometimes you have to do commercial films which attract the single screen audiences. Sometimes you have to do the so called satellite friendly films because a big chunk of money comes from there. So it happens.

How do you manage to do 4 films a year?

I have said this many times in the past. It is very easy to handle 4 films. Shooting for one film does not take more than 60 days so if I do 4 films, 240 days are gone so I can enjoy for rest 120 days. Some films take less than 60 days like I shot for 'Baby' in 45 days so rest 15 days I use in promotions.

Did you do any research for my role in 'Baby'?

No, there was no need for research. In fact, Neeraj Pandey told me not to do so as he has done all the research. I took little training for Action but I have always done Action throughout my career. I practiced 4 to 5 days at Abu Dhabi where we have shot major chunk of action.

Is Baby a film against Pakistan?

No, this is not a film against Pakistan. I don't like to do films against any nation and this too is no different. In 'Baby' we have not taken the name as to from which country is the terrorist from. It is some people who are bad but not the entire country. So I will never do such kind of film.

You have been following strict schedule as far as fitness is concerned, is there any fear which haunts you?

I don't have any fear, I earlier also didn't have any fear. I have fear only when I am sitting home but when I am on the set all the fear is lost.

Both 'Baby' and 'Special 26' are completely different films, every actor has a director who brings the best out of him, so would you call Neeraj Pandey that director in your career?

Neeraj Pandey is one of them who brings out something different out of me.

You are doing films like 'Baby', 'Brothers' and 'Airlift', so do you think this has taken you way above your Action Star image and has taken you to the thinking actor category?

I won't say that I am not doing commercial films. I am doing a 'Housefull 3' so that comes in the genre of Commercial cinema. But yes there is a deliberate attempt to go to the realistic cinema because I have started enjoying this type of film. But I don't want to miss to 'Housefull 3' kind of film as they are very much into the commercial slap stick space and the kind of films children love.

Being a fitness icon, what is your take on the new trend of 8 Pack Abs and 10 Pack Abs?

You know how 8 to 10 Packs are made in Bollywood. It's like stars make 8 pack abs in 3 months. All are using wrong techniques to make such body and that affects your health. I am not against body building but I am against the wrong ways of building body. I would say experience the process of growing the muscles. The people using wrong ways to have body are definitely going to regret as it is not right. There was a time where people used to live for 100 years and now it's completely different.

Whom do you look upto in real life for as far as fitness is concerned?

Anupam Kher. (Laughs) To be frank its Danny Denzongpa. He is such a fit guy and has one of the best health. He looks like a boy despite being in 70s; I don't know his exact age. That is because he is natural and disciplined.

What are your thoughts about 'Baby's clash with 'Dolly Ki Doli'? Won't you have preferred a solo release?

It is a good time to release a film and everybody should get benefit from that. Yes, I would have liked if I had a solo release but everybody wants to get their film a good release date and make good money so it is fair enough.

Would we see another Khiladi Film?

Nope, there are no plans as of now.

Firoz Nadiadwala has announced the sequel of 'Awara Pagal Deewana', so are you a part of it?

No, not yet.
