Story: The burglar Scott Lang has just come out of the jail and wants to lead a straight and clean life in order to be with his daughter, whom he loves the most. In his attempts to provide money for child support to his estranged wife, Scott decides to steal again! However, scientist Hank Pym makes sure that Lang steals his Ant Man costume and nothing else. What follows ahead is Scott’s practice to become the perfect Ant Man in order to stop Pym’s former assistant, Darren Cross, from making his own version of the Ant Man and destroy the world. And above all, to become a hero in front of his daughter’s eyes..a Superhero!
Performances: Paul Rudd is a treat to watch! He portrays the superhero role without any cool-shades like a Tony Stark or dramatic expressions like a Steve Rogers, but keeps it simple and funny. He is great during emotional scenes too.
Michael Douglas is brilliant, and it’s great to see how the actor makes the role larger than life making one wonder as to what his journey would have been as the scientist who lost his wife, his daughter’s trust, was voted out of his own company but managed to survive with a secret. For a viewer coming out of the screen and thinking his character’s history is where the actor wins!
Evangeline Lilly looks gorgeous and plays her part well. She is great in the scenes where she and Michael train Paul for his battle against the villain.
Corey Stall is good! His desperate attempts to shrink himself in the yellow suit, as well as the anger he has for Pym is visible in his eyes.
Bobby Cannavale as the cop who is married to Scott Lang’s ex-wife too has done a good job and makes place for himself in the movie as the good-hearted man!
It was a delight to see Anthony Mackie as the Falcon in a fight sequence between him and Ant Man where both he and Paul manage to make the scene funny as well as entertaining!
All the other actors have a done a good job too.
Direction: Peyton Reed makes sure his superhero flick is different from every other Marvel Superhero film and yet, manages to pull off a film that is funny, entertaining and worth the watch! He shows the audience the world from the eyes of an ant, and boy those scenes are the ones to watch out for! The creativity used by the entire team as well as the director is brilliant. He keeps the fights simple rather than making it loaded with tons of VFX and slow-motion effects! He lets the characters be realistic and ensures that almost every scene is filled with laughter.
Combo-On-Offer: Humor + Drama + Action
Verdict: We give the movie thunderous Claps for being a Superhero movie that can be enjoyed by the entire family!
