Film-maker Subhash Kapoor recently stated that his ‘Guddu Rangeela’ is going to re-create the Jai and Veeru bromance on-screen!
Well, it is obviously going to be a tough task, given the iconic status the Sholay-characters have achieved. And it is not just about the characters that are able to connect instantly with the audience within a period of 3 hours, it also heavily depends upon the actors who portray these larger-than-life roles.
Yes! There are times when a Jodi ends up becoming a favorite minus a female actor; thanks to the great chemistry between the male actors. Let us have a look at some of these iconic jodis of Bollywood that went on to become everyone’s favorites.
1. Munna and Circuit (Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi):
They are weird. They are different from everyone else. They are the bad men with a good heart. Munna has big dreams that seem stupid to the entire world but not for Circuit who thinks his ‘bhai’ is the best in the world! Their friendship and their comic antiques to make each other happy always bring a smile on the face every time we see ‘Munnabhai MBBS’ or ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’.
2. Rancho, Raju and Farhan (Aamir Khan, Sharman Joshi and R.Madhavan):
Trust director Rajkumar Hirani to make friendships look real and heart-warming! If his Munna and Circuit weren’t enough, he made us laugh and cry with his ‘3 Idiots’, which is a tale of friendship between Rancho, Raju and Farhan. It’s not every day that a man makes sure his other friends pass the test of life, in an environment of competition and hatred; and those two friends setting out on a long journey in search of that friend who is responsible for making them successful.
3. Amar and Prem (Aamir Khan and Salman Khan):
Amar and Prem are like chalk and cheese. They try their best to outdo each other, but fail. They try their best to woo a girl, but fail. They are incomplete without each other, no matter how bad their so-called-master plan is. It is their little arguments and weird but naughty ways to outdo each other that made us fall in love with them. And so much so, we are still waiting for a sequel to ‘Andaz Apna Apna’.
4. Sameer and Kunal (Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham):
Someone had to do it. Someone had to make a movie on homosexuals in Bollywood without letting it be serious and controversial. And we are glad these two did it! Abhishek and John as Sameer and Kunal won hearts! If their heated-up chemistry as rivals in ‘Dhoom’ wasn’t enough, they were back in ‘Dostana’ as two men pretending to be homosexuals and made everyone laugh! Be it their romantic encounters together or the way they handles situations as friends, the two even made the hot Priyanka Chopra’s magic fizzle!
5. Jai and Veeru (Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra):
Oh the quite obvious one in the list! Do we even need to say about this iconic Jodi?
6. Karan and Arjun (Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan):
The first time the two biggest Khans came together, they were superstars in the making. While re-incarnation has always been Bollywood’s favorite topic, having both the stars made the film even bigger. On the other hand, their journey as the brothers who find their ways back to each other made us love the movie even more! Their portrayals as Karan and Arjun became so popular that the two are still mentioned as B-town’s ‘Karan- Arjun’ every time the media writes news articles that incudes them both!
7. Aman and Rohit (Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan):
What do you expect the male lead actors to do in a love triangle? To give each other intense looks and fight it out in order to win the girl. But here, the chemistry was different. Rather, it was funny and a delight to watch. Aman and Rohit’s love for each other, for Naina and for Kanta Ben was the highlight of ‘Kal Ho Na ho’. The two shared nearly all the funny scenes in the film, be it when they meet for the first time, or SRK’s trademark “Che Din, Ladki In”. And no points for guessing, their love story would have been even more amazing, had there not been Priety Zinta’s character in the movie; but also, that love story would have been a nightmare for Kanta Ben.
8. Aakash, Sameer and Sid (Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Akshaye Khanna):
They took bromance to a completely new level! ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ wouldn’t have been the cult flick it is, had it not been the different characteristics and dreams of each of the three characters. Every friend group has fights, and one person who acts as the peacemaker. Here was one movie that introduced us to the new-gen friend groups minus the melodrama seen in earlier films.
9. Kabir, Imran and Arjun (Abhay Deol, Farhan Akhtar and Hrithik Roshan):
Roadtrips have never been such a fun before in Bollywood. A tale of three friends battling their inner demons and trying to understand life while fighting with each other, cracking jokes, jumping off planes, being chased by bulls, falling in love and finally realizing ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’.
10. Baburao, Shyam and Raju (Paresh Rawal, Suniel Shetty and Akshay Kumar):
We went to see ‘Hera Pheri’. We came out laughing. And we knew comedy would never be the same again. We have seen combinations of Akshay Kuamr-Sunil Shetty, Akshay Kumar-Paresh Rawal and Sunil Shetty-Paresh Rawal so many times; but these three together created a laughter riot!
Well, let’s hope we get to add the 11th name- Guddu and Rangeela after 3rd July when ‘Guddu Rangeela’ releases starring Arshad Warsi, Amit Sadh, Ronit Roy and Aditi Rao Hydari.
