Yes you read it right! The so-called-EPIC superhero flick that we all had been waiting for lacks depth and fails to even reach, forget raising, the bar that had been set by Nolan’s ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy. Find out to know why…
Star Cast: Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons and Gal Gadot
Director: THE Zack Snyder
Producer: Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder
Claps For: Disappointing us; apart from the oh-so-wow CGI effects which is the only saving grace of this movie!
Slaps For: Disappointing us; apart from poor characterizations, weak screenplay and confused direction!
What’s New: We do not have one, but two superheroes disappointing us! *Slow Claps*
Popcorn Refill: Interval
Plot: A series of events, including Superman’s fight with General Zod, sparks a global debate- whether the alien is a curse or a boon to the planet. While the Gotham-based vigilante Batman prepares himself to fight it out with the Metropolis superhero because of the destruction he caused to his Wayne Enterprises, he learns about the Kryptonite (the only mineral that can defeat Superman) that is being shipped by Lex Luthor. What follows next is how Batman steals it from the LexCorp and the final epic battle between him and Superman.
The script and the poor direction never gives Ben Affleck to show his charming and classy side as Bruce Wayne, nor does it allow to showcase the various shades of the brooding caped crusader Batman.
Same goes for Henry Cavill. The actor, who was impressive as the ‘Man of Steel’ and proved what a treat he can be with his ‘The Man from U.N.C.L.E’, is reduced to a character who the audience should sympathize with. There is nothing heroic, or rather super-heroic, about Batman as well as Superman.
Gal Gadot looks gorgeous and really doesn’t have much to do. On the other hand, Jesse Eisenberg hams his way to come across as the Shah Rukh Khan of Hollywood and fails to invoke any kind of fear.
The less said about Jeremy Irons’ Alfred, the better!
Where did the Zack Snyder of ‘Man Of Steel’ disappear? Yes it was bashed by many but I loved it!
The movie had some heart-pumping action sequences and wonderful emotional scenes along with various layers of Clark Kent. On the contrast, Batman v Superman’s characters lack any kind of depth and layers and the movie, as a whole, comes across as an emotionally stunted one!
Looks like Snyder was given just one brief: bring Superman and Batman together, the rest will be handled by the marketing team to make it a film that churns millions at the box office. A complete mess, this one’s one of the most disappointing and confused flicks any fan would come across!
While the 1st half is a complete drag, second half is fine as the real action begins. The Batman vs Superman showdown is BORING. Why? Probably it all has been covered in the several promos and trailers they released. There’s nothing much left to watch except for their battle with Doomsday. The only saving grace are the CGI effects!
And yes, by the end of the movie it doesn’t matter ‘Who Will Win’, what matters is how does Zack Snyder plan to pull of the Justice League flicks? How?
For a change, even the background music fails to strike a chord.
Combo-On-Offer: Action + Drama + VFX
Verdict: With a heavy heart, we give the movie SLAPS.
