Movie Review: Marvel’s ‘Captain America: Civil War’ scores more points than ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’
Nearly two months ago, we saw the biggest gladiator match between two biggest superheroes of the DC Comic in ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’. And today, we saw the Avengers tearing apart into two groups as they chose their side between the self-righteous Captain America and the “genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist” Iron Man!

And when I say that ‘Civil War’ scores more points, I mean in terms of my ratings and not the box office collections. Read on to find out why this fight among the Avengers is worth the watch…

Star Cast: Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Don Chedle, Jeremy Renner, Chadwick Boseman, Tom Holland, Paul Rudd, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, and Stan Lee (in yet another special appearance).

Director: Anthony Russo and Joe Russo

Producer: Marvel Studios

Claps for: Spiderman, Performances, Direction, Fast-paced screenplay, Action Scenes and Visual Effects

Slaps for: Nothing

What’s New: Watching the Avengers fight it out between themselves in a rather serious and not-so-jovial Marvel movie!

Popcorn Refill: Strictly Interval

Plot: Superheroes’ bid to save the world from baddies has its own share of collateral damage too. Due to the events in New York, Sovakia and the most recent one in Lagos, the United Nations decides to pass the Sokovia Accords which would give way to a governing body to control the actions of the Avengers. While Tony Stark agrees to sign on the accord in order to avoid his team from tearing apart, Steve Rogers disagrees to sign on it as he believes that a few casualties are always going to be a part of their job.

Amidst this tension between the two, a bomb placed by Steve’s friend Bucky Barnes rocks the UN Conference in Vienna, dividing the Avengers into two- ones who support Steve Rogers and his claim that Bucky is innocent; and the second who are a part of Stark’s mission to get Bucky behind the bars, or to kill him.

Performances: Even though the film is the third installment of Chris Evan’s character Captain America/Steve Rogers, it is Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man who steals the show as he showcases a plethora of emotions in the climax.

Having said that, let’s not take away the fact that Evans too has done an amazing job, as usual, as the silent, charming and self-righteous Captain- just that his role doesn’t have much to emote than being on Bucky’s side and fight with Team Iron Man.

This time Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff) not just lets her action do all the talking. Be it Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier), Anthony Mackie (Wilson/Falcon), Don Cheadle (Rhodey/War Machine), Jeremy Renner (Clint Barton/Hawkeye), Paul Bettany (Vision) or Elizabeth Olsen (Wanda/Scarlet Witch)- all have done a wonderful job.

Special mentions for Paul Rudd and Tom Holland. Both provide the much-required humor to the movie, especially during the fighting sequences, as Ant Man and Spiderman respectively! While we have seen what Rudd can do with his character in his solo release the previous year ‘Ant Man’, it was complete delight to watch Holland slip into his character of young Peter Parker with such ease who chit-chats his way into the final battle and despite being a fan of Captain America, goes against him only to impress Stark!

Chadwick Boseman is convincing as the angry and brooding Black Panther.

Direction: Dealing with too many plot-lines, several characters and at the same time taking off from where the previous ‘Captain America’ installment left can be tough at times; but Russo brothers have done an impressive job!

Let’s be honest, the previous outing of the Avengers (‘Age of Ultron’) was a big disappointment. However, this one ends up being nothing shorter than the third installment (and a better one) to the same: from fast-paced screenplay to engaging action sequences that will keep you hooked to your seats till the very end.

And unlike ‘Batman v Superman’, it gets hard to decide who is right and who is wrong- as both the characters (Captain America and Iron Man) have been built over the past few years with several solo movies and the audience understands the thinking of both the characters with ease.

Even though the Avengers fight with each other, no one intends to harm each other and there's no love lost- that message too is given out very clearly!

Plus, being different from the usual jovial Marvel movies and taking the little-more serious path surely gets the superhero flick extra brownie points!

Combo-On-Offer: Action + Drama + Humor + VFX

Verdict: We give the movie THUNDEROUS CLAPS for being the one of the finest Marvel movies which pitches two of the most beloved heroes against each other and also introduces a few more into the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
