Dancing with Tiger Shroff in the same frame isn't an easy thing to do. But Disha Patani pulled it off with such ease in truly 'Befikra' style. Of course, lately there have been talks about their alleged relationship even before she could make her big splash in Bollywood. But Disha says that she has learnt to take link-ups with a pinch of salt.
Meanwhile the lady has her fingers crossed awaiting for what this Friday has in store for her since her Bollywood debut 'M.S.Dhoni: The Untold Story' will be hitting the big screens on that day. The actress plays the role of Priyanka Jha, Dhoni's ex girlfriend.
A couple of days back we caught up with her for a quick chat and there she was tackling every question like a pro with a smile on her face-
Excerpts from the chat-
1. What was the first thought that crossed your mind when Neeraj Pandey offered you 'M.S.Dhoni: The Untold Story'?
I was like 'Yayyy'..I was so happy. More than happy I think it was more than what I deserved and it was like a dream come true for me to work with Neeraj Sir in my first film.
2. How was it sharing screen space with Sushant Singh Rajput?
Very nice. He is a very hard-working guy and he doesn't make you feel intimated or anything like that. He is very helpful so throughout the scenes we would practice together. Not once did he make me feel like I am a newcomer and he would never instruct me in particular way. He would give me my space to explore my character and scenes.
3. So how did showbiz happen to you?
It just happened. I never planned about it. My mother wanted me to participate in a few things. I never thought of acting or modelling because I always wanted to be an Air Force Pilot. But then I started modelling. I used to travel a lot from Mumbai to Delhi to other places and there was a point when my college (Amity) asked me to choose one because BTech can't happen just like this and you can't be on and off with your studies. So they asked me to choose one and I ended up with this. I don't know why I chose this..it was just a thought that came to my mind.
4. Any acting workshops you did before your first film?
I tried doing (laughs). But I think whatever I have learnt is from the auditions. I used to be a very shy girl earlier. I think acting is very personal. Everyone has their own sense of acting and you discover it through a journey when you actually practice it. So I think I learnt it when I was shooting for commercials and gave auditions.
5. Was it a struggle for you to land your first big break?
It's a journey. I think everybody has to go or have to face a certain kind of struggle. Not just in film industry, every profession that you choose in the future or you are in, is a struggle. It's an everyday struggle to wake up and go to work, to give your cent percent, to prove you are the best or to prove that you deserve it. So I think it's fine. You have to go through your journey. As long as you like your job, it's fun.
6. Was it easy for you to make it in Bollywood without any godfather?
Was it easy? No, it wasn't. (laughs). I don't miss having a godfather. Whatever I have done is on my own and I am very proud of it. I am a very independent girl. My parents have always taught me to be independent at any point of life. And of course I have my team who helps me out. I don't think you need to have a godfather. You need to be hard-working and focused to achieve what you want to. I think it isn't easy even for the star kids. They may get the first opportunity quite easily but then it isn't about the first film..it's about your career.
7. Were you apprehensive in making your debut with a film that also stars another actress (Kiara Advani)?
It doesn't matter. I am a performer and an artist. If people have to like me they can also like me in a group of 10 people. So it really doesn't matter. I just liked my part. I thought that this was something that I want to do, something that will excite me so I did it. I didn't think about how many girls are there or is it a launch for me. I am not that smart to prepare and think about how my career is going to function. I always follow my heart.
8. How was it working with Jackie Chan in 'Kung Fu Yoga'?
It was so amazing. I still feel I am dreaming. I have always been his fan since I was young. If you meet him you will know him personally. I learnt to be a better human from him. He was a Santa Claus on the sets. Everyday he would come to the sets with a big box of cookies and chocolates to feed everyone. He is someone who loves to make people smile and happy.
9. After 'M.S Dhoni' and 'Kung Fu Yoga' what's next on your platter?
I still don't know (laughs). I have been offered a few things but I am just not getting diverted now. Right now I am focusing on 'M.S Dhoni: The Untold Story'. Once the film is out, I can gather my mind and focus on what to do next. I never thought I would be doing 'M.S Dhoni' biopic. I thought that I might be doing some commercial film where I am dancing and suddenly this idea struck me where I didn't want to do an eye-candy role. I wanted to be a performer in my first film and maybe later on showcase my talent. But for my first film I wanted to come across as an actor more than anything else.
10. There were rumors about you doing 'Student Of The Year 2'?
No, I don't know. Nobody informed my team. Nobody has approached me yet. Once I get to know I will definitely share. I would be more than happy if offered the film.
11. Have you met M.S. Dhoni?
No, I haven't met him. I was filming for 'Kung Fu Yoga' and 'M.S.Dhoni' simultaneously. So I was travelling all around from China, Iceland and then India. I was all over the place and this year has been too much of work for me.
12. Have you become used to reports of your link-up with Tiger Shroff?
I am very used to it now. Everybody asks me about it. In fact that's the last question of every conversation- Are you dating him or not? I gave my answer and now it's up to people to write what they want to write.
13. So then are you single?
Yes, I am single completely. (laughs)
14. Any Bollywood actress you look up to?
Priyanka Chopra. She is amazing. For me, she is the best actress. Her attitude and confidence, her hard-work really inspires me. I look up to her.
15. Which of the three Khans would you love to romance on screen?
I would like to romance all of them. (giggles)
