Emraan Hashmi, whose last film ‘Mr. X’ didn’t fare well at the box office, is prepping up for his new movie, a biopic on the life of cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin. The film, titled ‘Azhar’, will be going on-floors in June and is slated to release in May 2016.
Interestingly, the first look of Emraan Hashmi as ‘Azhar’ was unveiled yesterday and the fans can’t stop raving about it. In fact, a section of the media also got to see an exclusive teaser of the movie which spoke about three aspects of Azhar’s life – God, Marriage and the Match fixing.
Quiz Emraan as to what has been the toughest part of doing a film like ‘Azhar’ and he says, “The biggest challenge was to get the cricketing style right because Azhar's cricket style has been unconventional. I have been an average gully cricketer without any footwork. But ever since Azhar bhai started teaching me, I realized, I have a lot to learn in cricket. Hopefully I have gotten better in the last three months. But I have still not been able to do Azhar's leg glance nicely. I have to polish it properly. We play around 50 overs in a day constantly whacking the ball but we will get it before the shoot starts.”
Given that Emi is a self-confessed Azharuddin fan, ask him how excited is he to get on board for this film was and he admits, “I have been a huge Azhar fan since childhood. And 20 years later I get a call from Ekta Kapoor saying she is planning to make a film on Azhar's life and want to cast me. I screamed and yelled because it was the best day of my life. But after that day there was panic, nervousness, anxiousness because here's a man who is celebrated, minutely seen under the microscope for over 30 years now. So it is a huge task but our team has done a good job. Rajat has written the scrip. Our team is quite gung ho about it.”
Directed by Tony D’Souza and produced by Balaji Motion Pictures and MSM Motion Pictures, ‘Azhar’ is all set to release on May 13, 2016.
