It's not every day that we hear someone chanting aartis on renowned Bollywood personalities. For promotional purposes, the movie crew of Filmstaan has come up with a fabulous and fresh marketing strategy. Sharib Hashmi and Inaamulhaq, the two leads of the film offer a petite tribute to actors Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, Dharmendra and Sunny Deol in the form of an aarti. The aarti is extremely comic, catchy and rhymes well. Famous dialogues of B-town icons are mimicked impeccably.
Filmistaan being written and directed by Nitin Kakkar is a story about a Bollywood maniac as well as a wannabe actor Sunny (Sharib Hashmi), who lives to act. And even though he is kicked out of auditions time after time, the Bollywood enthusiast doesn't give up. However, the twist is that after landing up in the remotest area of Rajasthan with an American crew for shooting a documentary, Sunny is captured and held captive by Pakistani forces. The movie depicts bonding of enemies over a common passion, Bollywood!
The movie has done considerably well in the film festival circuit. It was screened at the Busan International Film Festival, the Mumbai Film Festival, 24th Palm Springs International Film Festival, California, 23rd TROMSO International Film Festival, Norway, 36th Goteborg International Film Festival, Sweden and 5th Jaipur International Film Festival.
The film also bagged the Best Feature Film in Hindi in the 60th National Film Awards 2012 and best Debut Film in International Film Festival of Kerala.
