Feel this Fury!

Movie: Fury

Cast: Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf, Logan Lerman, Jon Bernthal, Michael Pena, Jason Isaacs, Scott Eastwood, Alicia von Rittberg.

Director: David Ayer

Claps for: The intense, realistic portrayal of war.

Slaps for: Feels stretched and some unwanted scenes.

Popcorn refill: Interval

Story: It is set in April 1945, when the Allies have made their way into Germany during World War 2. Sgt. Don 'Wardaddy' Collier (Pitt) is the battle hardened leader of a five-man Sherman tank called Fury.Bible (LaBeouf), Gordo (Pena) and Coon-Ass (Bernthal) form the remaining members who lose their fifth member in battle and are joined by the young Norman (Lerman). Norman is hardly the veteran like his new team-mates and doesn't seem to have the stomach for it. Wardaddy tries to mould the newcomer along the way when the crew head deep into German territory right into the heat of the war.

Performances: Brad Pitt does a fine job as the brutal, no-nonsense, seemingly invincible Wardaddy with a somewhat noble heart. His portrayal is spot on and you don't know whether to sympathize or despise him. Shia LaBeouf impresses as the god fearing, bible spouting gunner and we wish that he learns from his character and get his real life back on track, which has been recently marred by some bizarre behavior on his side. He is a talent and there are no questions marks on that! Logan Lerman does his credentials no harm and efficiently carries out his role. Jon Bernthal and Michael Pena do not disappoint either.

Direction: Technically, the film is good and David Ayer is successful in creating a grim, war-torn setting. He does manage to get the cast to excel and really showcases the worst of war, with the ability to make you squirm in your seat. The problem is that the film seems to simply slow down in the middle and feels like a drag. The violence and bloodshed shown is graphic and may not be to everyone's liking, especially the fairer sex. The movie could have been more fluid and does tend to get a bit of a bore in certain parts. The movie isn't bad, but it is not that great either. It is not in the league of top war movies like Saving Private Ryan, Schindler's List, A Bridge on the River Kwai, Guns of Navarone etc.

Combo-on-offer: Overall, this movie is good, especially if you are a fan of war movies like me. Just don't expect great things from it and it should be fine. The acting is good and so are the battle scenes. There is a problem with the pacing and it does get less engrossing in between. But definitely, worth a watch for genre fans.

Final Verdict: We give this film Claps for its excellent performances and intense, gritty portrayal of war.
