Slaps For: Nothing
What's new: No negativity at all towards any character or the government!
Popcorn Refill: Strictly Interval.
Story: ‘Gour Hari Dastaan’ is about Gour Hari Das, who fought for the country’s freedom during his childhood, and fought with his own country’s officials for the rest of his life to get recognized as a freedom fighter and get the Freedom Fighter’s Certificate. The movie shows his 32 year long struggle to achieve the certificate and all that loses and wins in between this enlightening journey.
Performance: Vinay Pathak lives and breathes as Gour Hari Das and proves once again why he is amongst the best actors of India. His body-language, his mannerisms, dialogue delivery, facial expressions..everything so perfect! No one could have done justice to this role much better than him. Without shedding a tear throughout the movie (except once in the end), he manages to gain all the sympathy and win hearts. He truly deserves a National Award for this wonderful performance.
Ranvir Shorey is another marvellous performer who never disappoints! He comes across as the true support to the old freedom fighter and presents himself in a different avatar. His angry-man trying to prove his worth is worth praises!
Konkona Sen Sharma plays the supportive wife with typical house-wife mannerisms with perfection. It was a delight to watch her on-screen after such a long time.
Tannishtha Chatterjee had disappointed in her previous release, the Sunny Deol - Kangana Ranaut starrer ‘I Love NY’, but does a commendable job here with a matured performance.
Siddharth Jadhav has always been a treat to watch. He provides a little comic relief but doesn’t take time to change his colours like a chameleon!
Vipin Sharma is at his usual taunting and arrogant best- a role we have seen him play in many movies!
Vikram Gokhale as the CM is brilliant and leaves an impact in the little role he has. His expressions and silence in the climax will leave you speechless!
Rajit Kapoor as the no-nonsense lawyer is amazing! On the other hand, Saurabh Shukla, as always, never fails to tickle your funny bone while being true to his character, even in his little appearance.
Direction: A director who takes a particular genre and keeps making movies around it is a great one. However, a director who manages to come up with completely different movies in terms of genre and direction and tone of the movie is even greater! After a commercial thriller like ‘The Xposé’, Ananth Narayan Mahadevan presents the audience with a powerful and emotional saga of the freedom fighter. The movie is neither very serious nor does it end up being a commercial entertainer. It is simple and to-the-point. Every scene is brilliant, and has its own importance to the story. He makes sure you feel the pain and the struggle of the freedom fighter and manages to leave you with watery eyes towards the climax. He makes you realize the importance of the struggle of freedom and the importance of the Indian flag! Kudos to him for putting his soul into the movie and delivering such a positive and inspiring movie!
