Director: Vishal Bhardwaj
Starcast: Shahid Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, Tabu, Kay Kay Menon, Irrfan Khan
Claps for: Beautiful performances in a dark (not saddening) story
Slaps for: (Pass)
Popcorn refill: If you dare..
Story: Loosely put, this story is an adaptation of Shakespeare's 'Hamlet'. It would be unfair to describe the plot of this story in 2-3 sentences. All we can say is it is a story that slowly but beautifully describes the life of 'Haider' and what revenge turned him into.
Performances: It's lovely how Shahid and Tabu play over dramatic roles so naturally, making their characters come alive effortlessly. Heavy Claps to the two of them for holding our attention whenever they came on-screen. Irrfan Khan didn't disappoint as usual and played his role with ease. Shraddha Kapoor gives a decent performance and has definitely improved on her acting skills since her last film (Ek Villain). Kay Kay Menon was perfect in a negative role.
Direction: Vishal Bhardwaj managed to do justice to Shakespeare's famous literary work 'Hamlet'. He pulls together a string of events in this film without much struggle and succeeds in holding our attention through most of the film. No; this story is not meant to have tears rolling down your face, but have you interested in knowing why tears are rolling down their (characters) faces; Vishal Bharadwaj understood just that and gains interest instead of pity from the audience.
Combo-on-offer: Following is the combo this film offers you-
Quality cinema experience + A great story + Clap-worthy performances = watch it already!
If you're looking for the usual Bollywood Masala, you may want to re-think your decision to catch this film. If a good story matters to you more than song & dance, you won't regret it.
