Om Shanti Om to Piku- Movies that made Birthday Girl Deepika Padukone Bollywood’s reigning queen

Om Shanti Om to Piku- Movies that made Birthday Girl Deepika Padukone Bollywood’s reigning queen
2005. The nation saw Himesh Reshamiya singing a dancing along with a gorgeous lady on ‘Naam Hai Tera’. Little did the boys of the nation know that within a few years, her name indeed would become worth drooling over. She came; she conquered and she won several hearts. Here is one actress who has time and again proved her critics wrong and emerged as the reigning queen of Bollywood– Deepika Padukone.

1. Om Shanti Om

Om Shanti Om Deepika
It was love at first sight for all who went to watch this Shah Rukh Khan movie. And what they saw was just not about a beautiful face with large eyes while eating a chewing gum, but an actress who could easily mouth “Ek Chutki Sindoor Ki Keemat” and win hearts as a sweet and simple superstar and also come across as a not-so-smart fan at the same time. Yes, we had found our next superstar…

2. Love Aaj Kal

Love Aaj Kal Deepika
We just cannot stop thanking Imtiaz Ali for getting her out of playing the hero’s ladylove and rather playing a self-made, strong and ambitious Meera who had her own individuality and a story to tell in Love Aaj Kal. Didn’t we all wish to have a loving, bindaas and supportive girlfriend like her?

3. Cocktail

Cocktail Deepika
Sadly, the girl we saw in Love Aaj Kal got lost playing the same kind of roles again and again. And while the pre-release of ‘Cocktail’ had everyone going gaga about Dinana Penty, they all came out of the theatres raving about Deepika’s performance. This movie established our belief in her acting capabilities and of carrying an entire alone on her shoulders.

4. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani Deepika
Oh yes 2013 was not just about YJHD but also about the woman who wore a saree and let her eyes do the talking and ‘Chennai Express’ along with a power-packed and intense performance in ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram Leela’. But YJHD made the audience connect with her Naina Talwar- the nerdy and quite girl boiling with wild fantasies. This was the year that is responsible for making her the undisputable QUEEN of B-town.

5. Piku

Piku Deepika
It is only Deepika who can shout throughout the movie yet come across as the adorable daughter at no fault of her own without coming across as a loud and irritating woman. That’s the magic of this actress. And not that she didn’t create much Tamasha playing the supportive girlfriend to Ranbir Kapoor, or the elegant and classy Mastani; but PIKU truly stole our hearts with her girl-next-door simplicity.

Here’s wishing the stunning actress a very Happy Birthday!
