RECAP- It all started when Kangana Ranaut in one of her interviews made her 'silly exes' remark, Hrithik Roshan tweeting he would rather date a Pope and the next thing we knew both the parties slapped each other with legal notices. Several statements to the media followed from both the sides and just when we thought things would cool down, Kangana's ex Adhyayan Suman jumped into the picture with a 'controversial' interview where he accused her of black magic and physical abuse.
CUT TO- The lady collected her third consecutive National Award for 'Tanu Weds Manu Returns' yesterday and in an exclusive interview to Barkha Dutt from NDTV finally broke her silence on all the controversies surrounding her.
Excerpts from her 'tell-all' interview
1. On Being Controversy's Favourite Child
"Success is the best revenge. I always feel women should answer back either with their sarcasm or success. That really kills."
2. On Being A Fighter
"I am a self pleaser, not a people pleaser. I don't mind being a fighter because I just get to live my life on my own terms."
3. On Being Called Names And Accused Of Performing Black Magic
"The recent turn of events have been extremely alarming for me. It doesn't upset me when people call me names and talk about my period blood. I don't care if I am called a witch, whore or a psychopath. Calling names are a thousand year old weapons that are still used against women. If a woman is successful she is called a witch. If she is sexually active, she's called a whore."
4. On Media Speculations About Her Suffering From Mental Disorders
"Certain sections of media is trying to suggest that to humiliate a woman you can use mental illnesses. It won't work. Why do we have to run down certain section of people everyday to provide entertainment?"
5. On Being Painted As A Physical Abuser
"As far as physical violence is concerned, apart from that one incident of hitting a man with my stiletto, I have never raised my hand on anyone. I have hit a man only once after he hit me. That day I realized that every time you go to hit a man you will end up hurting yourself a lot more than you can hit him because that's the way women are made. I am very proud of my fragile body and sharp mind."
6. On Being Asked If She Is Really Strong As She Appears All The Time
"In last few days there have been moments when I would just randomly keep breaking down and I really felt cornered and targeted. But then there are cupcakes you can always fall back on."
7. On Being Pressurized By Several Industry Bigwigs To Publicly Apologize And Say That She Was Communicating With An Imposter
"I am not entitled to give my views on something which would be decided in court. I can not pretend to be sorry for the things that I am not. I wish I would have not offended so many people and I wish they were happy with me."
8. On Being Asked If She Has Any Regrets In Her Life
"I have always followed my instinct and it's been quite a roller-coaster. But I feel that I am on the right track because my journey is not from Bandra to Juhu. My journey is from a remote village in Manali to where I am today. This is an extraordinary journey. It has to have so many plot-points. We can't expect everything to be a fairytale. Even fairy tales have villains."
9. On Sexism In The Industry
"We live in a male chauvinistic society. There is no point in pretending that we don't. Our industry is particularly sexiest because women are expected to be just glam dolls, bimbettes and pretty little piece of asses. I think it's high time we reveal our real self and identities because women have been objectified and treated almost like objects."
