Story: Laila Kapoor (Kalki Koechlin) is suffering from cerebral palsy and all that she desires is to have a sexual relationship with someone. Given her medical condition, she fails to find a normal boy who loves her and fulfils this desire. Amidst all this, Laila gets a scholarship from a New York based University for studies, which she accepts. With her mother's (Revathy) help she flies to New York and manages to settle in the new environment. That is where she comes across Khanum (Sayani Gupta). Laila grows close to Khanum and they indulge in a sexual relationship. However, Laila is also attracted to a boy in the University. Thus from here on Laila embarks upon the road to her secure discovery and that forms the plot of the film.
Performance: Kalki Koechlin nails this performance. The amount of efforts that she has taken in playing the character of Laila Kapoor is incredible. She shines throughout the film and wins your heart with an honest and flawless act. Revathy, who plays Laila's mother is also exceptional. You can empathize with her. In fact at certain portions she leaves you emotional. Kalki receives great support in the form Khanum, played by Sayani Gupta. She is bold, confident, sexy and at the same time perfect with her role.
Direction: Shonali Base does a decent job with this film. The concept that she has in hand is amazing, however there is no clear story in the movie. There are many dots in the movie which are left open for the audience to understand or assume. The editing of the film also seems a bit abrupt. However, this may also be due to the cuts from the Censor Board, given the film's secure content. Nonetheless, with the actor's giving such a flawless performance, these things take a backseat.
Verdict: We give the film claps for its impeccable performances. Standing ovation for Kalki to attempt this.
