The Priyanka Chopra Starrer Mary Kom did well at the end of its second weekend at the box-office. The film collected about 7.5 crores through Friday, Saturday and Sunday last week. This biopic now has a total box-office collection of over 55.50 crores at the domestic box office.
Although this film was not made with the intention of being commercially appealing, the box-office stats prove otherwise. The fact that the film was made tax free in a few states helped the film increase numbers at the box-office. 'Mary Kom' received major revenue from the cities of Mumbai and Delhi.
Priyanka Chopra was overwhelmed with this response as she put in a lot of efforts for her role in this film. The stunning actress played the role of a five-time world champion boxer in the film. This film followed the trend of biopics in Bollywood as seen in 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' which also did extremely well at the box-office. This is a clear indication that we should expect more biopics coming our way in Indian cinema. It had been reported that Sonam Kapoor was roped in to play the lead role in a biopic that depicts the life of renowned Indian painter Amrita Sher-Gil.
This also shows that female centric films are now readily accepted by Bollywood audience that are otherwise used to watching male-centric films.
