Now-a-days cinema has taken the better of the growing up kids but do you think it is right? There are some people who may agree with reality while some still choose to stick to the old laidback mentality about films. Are the kids in today's times smarter than we were when we were kids? I would say a big YES. The society is changing, bringing about a lot of change in the life of the kids.
This takes me back to the days when I was a kid and the kind of films I used to watch. I can still recollect, the first film I watched as a child was 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai'. There may be films I have watched earlier, but I recollect watching, understanding and remembering this movie bit-by-bit. My parents were not too fond of watching films and even today they are not a big fan but my godfather is an avid movie lover. He prefers watching 3-4 movies a day and that's how he passes his time. So as a kid, I've watched plenty of Bollywood and Hollywood films but recollecting some of them is difficult. I still remember the first time my parents took me to a theatre was for the movie - Jurassic Park. And yes, I did get scared looking at the huge dinosaurs running around the place and munching on humans as food! When I took back to those days, I sometimes laugh and wonder what if these films were made now, how would the audience respond - positive or negative?
In India, we have grown up seeing films based on love, tradition, family values, love for the nation, etc. But in countries like US, UK, etc children have grown up watching loud and adult like films which broaden their horizon from the time they are kids. Around 10-20 years ago, watching a movie at a theatre was considered expensive and a luxury. However, overseas it was considered a lifestyle to break away from the daily routine. Earlier parents too were conservative and felt watching a film would change the outlook of their child or would spoil their traditional values.
Now-a-days the way of looking at a cinema has changed. People's mentality has broadened and their outlook towards cinema has evolved. Over the decade, we have seen cinema grow from old school love stories to topics that are trending or films having a moral. Good films are being made. This is helping the young ones to grow and understand the essence of cinema in a positive way. Some films are also being made purely masala based, but we are not complaining. We need films that are entertaining and a stress buster from the daily work routine or school life. Kids resort to movies as a pass-time and an entertainment that helps them to grow. Some of them even aspire to make it big in life after getting influenced by the characters on the big screen.
As a personal experience, I have seen kids talk about what happened in a particular movie and how they could implement it in their upcoming school projects. Some kids even talk about a flop film and say that they couldn't even appreciate a bit of the movie. Yes the kids are becoming smarter and growing with time. Believe it or not, cinema is playing a big role with their minds and thoughts.
