In a time when most of our Bollywood actresses are pretty much conscious about how people perceive them in real life, here's an actress who doesn't care a damn about it. We are talking about Nargis Fakhri!
She speaks her mind and for all the haters who troll her, she has a perfect answer- "Yack it all and kiss my bum." She believes that she has less friends in the industry because not many understand her sense of humour.
We caught up with Nargis at a suburban restaurant for a quick chat and what followed next was a no holds barred conversation!
Excerpts from the interview-
1. On Her Hindi
A. "Actually everyone usually speaks English around me. That's why my Hindi probably hasn't improved. But now I can at least understand the language. So you can't talk about me in front of my back." (laughs)
2. On Playing A Real-Character On Screen In Her Recent Film 'Azhar'
A. " I never really thought about it until people started bringing it up. The challenging part is knowing that you are going to get compared. You don't know the person personally or haven't met them. You only have tools in order to recreate that character. My tools were the films, internet and the director to actually let me know how this person really is in real life."
3. On How Things In Bollywood Have Changed For Her Since 'Rockstar'
A. "Oh gosh! So many things have changed. You just have to get used to a new environment, a new thought process and a new culture."
4. On Shooting Kissing Scenes With Emraan Hashmi
A. "It was nice. We got to shoot in UK. Working with Emraan is really lovely. He is very professional. So when it came to the kissing scenes, I was very nervous and awkward. Because he has done it many many times as you all know, but I didn't know about his tag of 'serial kisser'. He was so professional about it. It wasn't creepy, which is the most important thing. So he put me at ease and we did our scenes."
5. On The Most Difficult Scenes In 'Azhar'
A. "I think crying scenes are hard. I can't use that fake stuff because it starts burning. So I have to make my own tears happen. Sometimes when I am in a good mood then it becomes a bit difficult. So the emotional and crying scenes are tough if you ain't in that mood that day."
6. On Getting Along With Her Female Co-stars
A. "I am lucky that the people I work with are nice, and even if they are not nice, I am so nice that they have no choice but to be nice. I kill them with niceness. I am nice and it's real and not fake. And if they are being mean to me, then I ask, what’s wrong with you, you got a problem, you’ve got your period?" (laughs)
7. On Her Sense Of Humour
A. "A lot of people don’t get my jokes, so there is always crickets. There was a journalist who told me that some people were saying that you were high on something on sets. I said how sad is that? You just don’t get my jokes! I am very loud."
8. On Being Expressive
A. "I don’t restrict myself and my PR team always has problems. Because here in Bollywood you are supposed to be nice and proper. You ain't suppose to say things or offend anyone. But I was so used to it that I am over it."
9. On What's Keeping Her Glued To Bollywood
A. "People keep hiring me. If you had a job and they keep hiring and paying you then would you leave it? No. I live my life such that whatever comes in my way, if I feel okay with it, I will accept it. If I don't then I will say no. I don't plan anything or have a strategy like other people. Some people say that I don't have ambition. Maybe I don't towards this particular field. I guess my biggest thing is that I get to take care of my mom. So this has been the best paying job. It has given me the opportunity to take care of my family and to maybe put towards something I believe in the future."
10. On Actors She Want To Work With
A. "Only good, nice ones. When I say good I mean good hearts. I enjoy working with Varun Dhawan and I would work with him for the rest of my life if I could. (laughs) But then people might get bored. He is such a lovely human being. I mean all the actors I have worked with are nice but I just feel that he is a people's person. He is so polite and friendly. I really like that about him."
11. On Making Friends In The Industry
A. "Varun (Dhawan) is my friend. He is the only person who I consider my friend here. But I don't get to see him much. He is a superstar and then you know he is very busy when I am free or I am not in town when he says hi. Unfortunately because of that you don't get to even meet the people that you like. Shit I forgot to mention this, there is Varun and even Uday (Chopra). They are really two good friends of mine because they understand my sense of humour. It's hard..people don't get my sense of humour. So when you have two people who understand your sense of humour and they are good people and so funny, why wouldn't you want them in your life?"
12. On The Man Of Her Dreams
A. "I want my partner to have a good humour. When we are old and crusty, I want to laugh with my partner. I am funny and he better be funny as me because I don’t want to be the one telling all the jokes. He should be kind and compassionate. And he should also be well off because I don't want to take care of his a** I have made my own money and he should make his own money. Then I am just going to keep all my money aside and spend all of his.(laughs) It's nice to see a man who is ambitious. Actually no one is perfect, so you have to find your own perfect. I don't want to keep saying that I have a perfect man because I don't know what a perfect man is."
13. On Her Upcoming Film 'Housefull 3'
A. 'Housefull 3' is coming and you are going to laugh so hard that you will pee yourself. So wear diapers."
14. On Dealing With Criticism
A. "I am judged all the time. But I just yack off all the criticism. I am like- "Yack it all and kiss my bum."
15. On Receiving Sweat Hearts On Valentines
A. For those who don't know, Uday Chopra had posted this tweet on Valentine's Day-
Ask Nargis about it and she says, " You know when you get along with someone.. which is why this happens. It’s hilarious when people sweat hearts, I asked him if he could sweat Jesus. Because I love Jesus!"
16. On Link-Up Stories
A. "I have been a part of rumours that were ridiculous. They wrote that I have dated each and every Bollywood actor. In the meantime, I am at home, all alone. It would actually be nice if I was dating someone. The weirdest rumour I have heard about myself is 'Nargis Fakhri is waiting to turn into a lesbian'."
17. On Her Hobbies In Leisure Time
A. "If I am in Mumbai I like to cook. I cook my own food. So I go online and research recipes. I am trying to learn Indian cuisine on my own. I like 'baigan bharta'. I also like painting and do research about natural healing and beauty secrets."
18. On Her Hollywood Plans
A. "Yes, I did 'The Spy' and because all I was shooting Bollywood movies back-to-back and then the promotions I had no time. Maybe on my three months off if anything comes up- any auditions or meeting people and other stuff, I would go for it."
