Story: Piku (Deepika Padukone) is a modern day girl who has a 70 year old father Bhaskor Bannerji (Amitabh Bachchan) to be taken care of. How Piku manages her job while giving priority to her old grumpy father is what the film deals about. And when Piku is trying to manage her schedule according to her father's requirement, they decide to make a road trip to Kolkata, their native town. It is here where Piku needs Rana (Irrfan Khan), the owner of a taxi company, who drives them to Kolkata. What happens next in the movie forms the main plot.
Performance: It is a difficult task when you are asked to rate the performances of actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan. Amitabh Bachchan, as always, is brilliant in the movie. The way he has portrayed the pot bellied bengali man is remarkable. He is absolutely adorable. Irrfan Khan on the other hand wins you over with his quirk. He is effortlessly amazing in the movie as he takes it a notch higher with his subtle humour and sarcastic looks. However, it is Deepika Padukone who impresses me with her sheer presence. The actress manages to hold fort in front of these industry stalwarts and that in itself is an achievement. Bravo girl! Raghubir Yadav and Jishu Sengupta support well. Moushmi Chatterjee is a surprise package in the movie. She leaves you in splits every time that she appears on screen and you wish to have her more in the movie.
Direction: Shoojit Sircar deserves a standing ovation. He has hit the Bulls eye yet again with Piku. If you thought Vicky Donor was heart warming, then go watch Piku now. Another gem from Sircar. The way he has etched the characters of Baba, Piku and Rana is simply amazing. And not to forget, Sircar keeps up with his tradition of conveying a Social message through the movie. The cinematography also deserves a special mention. The way the film explores the bylines of Kolkata is something that only Sircar can manage. Dialogues by Juhi Chaturvedi are a huge winner for me. It keeps you connected with the movie. Anupam Roy's music is the icing on the cake.
Combo-on-Offer: Emotion + Drama = Piku
Verdict: We give the film thunderous claps for its stellar performances, innovative Dialogues, great script and direction. MUST WATCH for all!
