Actor Rajniesh Duggal, who is gearing up for his film 'Ek Paheli Leela', chats with us exclusively ahead of the film's release. In a brief talk, Rajniesh talks about working with Sunny Leone, his comparison to Salman Khan, his upcoming movies and more.
What prompted you to sign 'Leela'?
I was shooting in Benaras when they called me up. When I came back, I read the script and liked it. Once you like the character, other things don't matter.
You have extremely bold scenes with Sunny Leone. Were you nervous doing them?
No I was not nervous though I was doing such scenes for the first time. The makers were clear that they wanted to shoot the bold scenes in a much choreographed manner. You can call them as Kamasutra dance poses. In fact, when we were shooting for Thaare Bin, Rajasthani version of Tere Bin, we shot it on the hard rock song to get the passion right.
At the trailer launch of 'Leela', when Sunny was asked who her Salman Khan is, she took your name. What was your reaction?
I wasn't there at the trailer launch but then obviously I came to about it from twitter and facebook. Well, it feels amazing to hear such a compliment. At the rehearsals also, it was like Aishwarya, do it properly or Salman do it properly. So yeah it feels good. Comparisons are bound to happen because when the song had come way back, it was a huge hit. Dholi Taaro in our film has also been shot in a big way. It is a different take on the song.
The film mainly focuses on Sunny Leone. So were you ever skeptical of being overshadowed?
The film is called 'Ek Paheli Leela', so it is bound to be on Sunny Leone. And from day one I knew it. That is the purpose of listening to the script so that you know on whom is the film based.
Can you tell us more about your character?
I can't reveal much about it because at the end the movie is a thriller. It has a lot of positive bit in it and the only romantic part in the movie is mine.
Was it difficult to get into the character?
That was the challenging part of the character and it was fun. We worked a lot on it and to get a hang over it, I used to go and interact with the villagers. That is how I got the nuances right.
Did you take any inspiration from any character in Bollywood to play such a character?
The only people who have played such a character was Dilip Kumar and Aamir Khan in 'Lagaan'. But their roles were very different. Hence I couldn't take any cues from their roles.
Which are the other films we would see you in?
There is 'Direct Ishq' which releases in June. I play a Banarasi guy in the movie. It is a love triangle. Then there is another film titled 'Beimaan Love', which is a dark romantic thriller. It again stars Sunny Leone and me. I start shooting in April, Sunny will join in from June. They are ideally planning to shoot in November but let's see how things work out.
