Rhea Chakraborty shot to fame with her debut film 'Mere Dad Ki Maruti'. And though the actress hasn't been able to hit the bull's eye, she is on the path towards it. Though Rhea's second film 'Sonali Cable' didn't perform well at the box-office and she is disheartened about it, the chirpy girl is quite gung ho about her next release 'Bank Chor', again a Yash Raj Films product. In a candid conversation, Rhea talks to us about her upcoming film, working with Riteish Deshmukh and Vivek Oberoi, her desire to work with Farhan Akhtar and Shah Rukh Khan, her link up with Aditya Roy Kapur and more. Read on:
'Sonali Cable' didn't do well. Did that dishearten you at any point?
When a film doesn't do well, you always feel bad because we put in so much of effort. And for 'Sonali Cable' I had put in lots of efforts. However, whatever happens is for good. I love the film and I want my kids to watch that movie. A film doing well or not isn't in our control. I was definitely very upset when it did not do well. But now I am quite excited for 'Bank Chor'.
How is 'Bank Chor' shaping up?
'Bank Chor' is done. I am very excited with the film. We just wrapped up and now I am looking forward for its release. It is my biggest film in terms of its release, actors and everything. It is a big year for me.
When is the movie releasing?
We will be releasing this movie later this year...
Tell us something about your character in 'Bank Chor'...
'Bank Chor' has a very commercial and interesting role. I play a pivotal part in the movie. The film starts with me - the first scene of the movie. In a way, I am the catalyst! I play an entertainment reporter in 'Bank Chor'. This is the first time I am playing a Bengali character. She wants to do serious journalism but the irony is that she isn't taken seriously because of the way she looks!
Since you are playing a bong girl in the movie, how well could you relate to the character?
I could relate a lot to the character a lot. I took cues from my family members and near and dear ones while preparing for my bong character.
'Bank Chor' stars Riteish Deshmukh and Vivek Oberoi. How was it working with both of them?
It was absolutely amazing.I truly bonded with Riteish. He is an amazing guy, very down to earth, humble and currently he is riding high on three big successes. And yet he is very grounded. He always stays on the sets rather than chilling in his vanity van. As soon as the camera switches on, his energy level goes up. I got to learn so much from him. Also he gets great food on set! Riteish is a very selfless co-star. Vivek Oberoi is a great actor too. And he gets into the skin of the character totally. He is playing a cop in the movie and manages to be that throughout the day. Vivek has a really good voice. So it was a great experience working with them.
Both Vivek and Riteish have done many films together and they share great camaraderie. So how did you manage to break the ice with them?
Honestly, luckily for me they both were very warm and welcoming to me right from the start. And they never had issues if I sat with them. Also as a unit, we had fun. So I never had a problem gelling with them.
'Bank Chor' is Bumpy's second film. How was the experience?
Bumpy is one of the finest first time directors I have worked with considering the fact that I have worked with only first time directors so far. And though this was Bumpy's second film, he was way beyond his time.
Rhea, now that you have worked with Riteish and Vivek, who have great comic timing, tell us how is your comic timing in real life...
My friends think I am hilarious. And I think comedy comes to me more naturally than other stuff. I think I have that personality of cracking stupid funny jokes. So it works better for me. When you are doing a comic film, it just doesn't stress you.
Humour is a difficult genre to do. What is your opinion?
Definitely once in a while you think it is difficult to do. For instance, in real life a certain thing may take 10 mins to be funny, but on-screen it has to appear funny in 40 seconds. So yeah, it is definitely tougher but with Bumpy and others I managed to do it.
Kapil Sharma was initially offered 'Bank Chor'. So what was your reaction when he was replaced?
Honestly speaking, I am a part of Yash Raj Films and I was offered 'Bank Chor' when Kapil Sharma was a part of it. They had just told me about the film but there was nothing finalized. So, there was no interaction between Kapil and me.
Had Kapil Sharma been cast in 'Bank Chor', would you have been nervous?
Not really because, when you are working with the co-stars who have much more experience than you or are way more talented than you, then it is just nice to work with them. You get to learn lot of things. I wouldn't have been nervous but be excited to work with him.
Talking about your personal life, how romantic are you in real?
I am a very romantic person in real life. I have lot of boyfriends. I am in a relationship with Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Leonardo Di Caprio and many others. But other than that, as of now, I am single!
And what about Aditya Roy Kapur?
Aditya and I have spent lot of time together, have been to the gym together and have been friends. Hence, people talk about it and I guess it is normal. When I first saw an article about Aditya and me, I got very angry and called him up and said 'Dude what is this'? Initially, it bothered me, but now it doesn't affect me.
You are also being seen in the yep.me commercials. Tell us something about it...
I am enjoying these commercials. It is my biggest brand endorsement as of now given the fact that Shah Rukh Khan used to endorse it initially. I am also doing a 'Chings' ad which was earlier done by Ranveer Singh. So these things make me happy.
With which super star are you keen to work with?
A have a long wish list. I really want to do a film with Farhan Akhtar. I am a big fan of his. Also, every girl in India and globally wants to do a film with Shah Rukh Khan. I am no different. And I also want to work with Aamir Khan.
Any directors you are eager to work with?
I am very keen to work with Anurag Kashyap and Anurag Basu.
Which are your forthcoming films?
Nothing official currently. I will let you know very soon once things finalize.
