Bollywood movies are known for its entertainment value, but there are some films which are sentimental and connect to the audience rather deeply. There are motion pictures based on love stories, war, partition or social issues which strike a chord with the public. Let’s look into some of our famous Bollywood flicks which highlighted the India- Pakistan ties. The issue is rather well known to us and how these pictures showcase the positive side of it is something we all admire about these 5 movies.
1. Veer – Zaara
A 2004 romantic drama directed by Yash Chopra narrates the story set against the backdrop of conflict between India and Pakistan. The beautiful love story of an Indian Air Force pilot and a Pakistani woman hailing from a rich political family of Lahore who remained separated for 22 years.
2. Gadar: Ek Prem Katha
The story of this film is loosely based on the real life of Boota Singh. The film is known for its anti-Pakistan sentiment . It is an action movie starring Sunny Deol, Amisha Patel, and Amrish Puri set in the time of partition of the modern Indian History. It was one of the most successful movies in India when it was released.
3. Bhaag Milkha Bhaag
The biographical sports movie is based on the real life story of the flying Sikh Milkha Singh. The race where he earned his title of flying Sikh was in Pakistan. The film is directed under the backdrop of partition and how it affected the families then.
The film is an action drama, which deals with an Indian police officer's fight to stop cross-border terrorism. ‘Sarfarosh’ was released at the time of the Kargil conflict when tensions between India and Pakistan were high but the movie still did fairly well.
This film belongs to the comedy genre where the lead character gets kidnapped and finds himself in a cross- border conflict, being confined in a Pakistani’s house but the film also shows how cinema can be the universal panacea for co-existence.
These are the top 5 films of different genres which portray the India- Pakistan ties and we are expecting ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ which releases this Friday , to deliver something on the same lines and once again create magic in the history of cinemas.
