Everybody in the Hindi film fraternity has made some career mistakes while they were still stepping on their ladder of success; and it’s not how we make mistakes but how we correct them, which defines us. The same way our Bollywood stars have made incorrect choices in the past but then, today, we still love and remember them for all the hit films they gave us. Here is a list of movies that our celebrities chose to do and didn’t turn out quite well for them, as they tasted failure.
1. Besharam – Ranbir Kapoor
Ranbir’s least expected movie choice! Even though the actor was at his career’s highest phase and was seen on-screen with his real-life parents for the first time, the movie failed to create magic! The sole reason being the failed attempts to be an entertainer along with funny jokes, all of which fell flat on its face!
2. Kill Dil - Ranveer Singh
You are promised a movie with entertainment, bromance, gun-fights, and romance! What you get is Ranveer Singh jumping around energetically with a colored hairdo, Ali Zafar wasting his talent playing the supportive friend and Parineeti Chopra wearing clothes that do not suit her at all! On top of that, Govinda was given hardly any screen-time or importance in the film along with a trashy climax!
3. Mausam- Shahid Kapoor
The story line couldn’t get any worse with the two souls who go through Babri Masjid Demolition, 9/11 attacks, Bombay Riots, 1993 Bomb Blasts in Bombay and the Godhra riots before they finally unite! It was less of a love story and more of a news channel summing up all the big man-made disasters that happened in a decade. Why in the world did Shahid and Sonam decide to sign this movie?!
4. Rascals – Ajay Devgn
The movie starred Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt and Arjun Rampal, one of the best known actors of their times. Yet they made such a huge blunder. Therefore, experience is not always everything! Kangana Ranaut in her various bikini avatars was the only reason why the movie-goers tolerated the movie!
5. Ram Gopal Verma Ki AAG- Amitabh Bachchan
Remake of the iconic ‘Sholay’, the movie obviously would have never been able to match the original’s cinematic experience, however the movie did not even live up to the expectations of being an “OKAY” movie. It was rather the worst flick of the year! A movie definitely not expected from the living legend Amitabh Bachchan, who played the antagonist a la Gabbar Singh. But then looking at his stardom and fan following, all we can say is, mistakes happen!
6. Tees Maar Khan – Akshay Kumar
The movie was a flop because of Akshay Kumar’s repetitive role of playing a comic protagonist who shouts on top of his voice, which had then started to bore the audience. Also, Farah tried to repeat her ‘Om Shanti Om’ magic with senseless and filmy inclusions in the script, which wasn’t much appreciated by the audience! On the box-office front, the movie was avoided by all SRK-loyalists as this was Farah’s first film without the superstar after their fight, which caused the movie a lot of loss!
7. London Dreams – Salman Khan
Yes, Salman khan too had to face failure for an entire decade before making it amongst the top 3 Khans once again and regaining his lost stardom! London Dreams was criticized for being predictable, slow and dragged along with not-so-melodious songs despite being a musical!
8. Trimurti – Shah Rukh Khan
The trio of SRK, Jackie Shroff and Anil Kapoor gave us the film which we will remember as one of their major drawbacks! The movie, despite having these three actors and a director like Mukul Anand, failed to strike a chord amongst the audience!
9. Mela – Aamir Khan
Mela was a huge disaster, thanks to its boring and dragged storyline which kept going no-where! The director even tried to re-create has ‘Raja Hindustani’ magic by adding a lip lock between Aamir Khan and Twinkle Khanna, but still couldn’t save the movie from drowning at the box-office! We now know that the Perfectionist can also make some mistakes, and ‘Mela’ is one mistake he might be regretting till now!
10. Tevar – Arjun Kapoor
Another film which tried to go the typical south-Indian styled entertainer way and in an attempt to establish Arjun Kapoor, who was flying high with the success of his previous films, as a big superstar who romances the heroine and fights with the hero along with one-liners! This 2015 movie didn’t do well with the public, in spite of having a whole song being dedicated to Salman Khan!
11. Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon- Hrithik Roshan
Hrithik Roshan is known for his acting and dancing skills but looks like something was terribly wrong with him, since he ended up over- acting! Same goes for Kareena Kapoor. The old-school thoughts and over-acting plus the addition of Abhishek Bachchan didn’t go down well with the audiences!
Every actor in this industry has made some wise and some not so wise choices, but all we have to care about is how much entertainment they provide us. So if it’s a good movie, we clap and if not then we slap!
