Slaps for: Melodrama
Popcorn Refill: Interval
Story: Ungli is a story of four friends Abhay (Randeep Hooda), Maya (Kangana Ranaut), Kalim (Angad Bedi) and Goti (Neil Bhoopalam), who turn into social vigilantes and gang up to fight against the corrupt system in their own unique ways. While the gang begins to attract lot of support for teaching a lesson to the corrupt from the aamjanta, the police officials ask officer Kale (Sanjay Dutt) to nab them, who takes help of a carefree cop Nikhil Abhyankar (Emraan Hashmi) to track the gang. What follows next is the main plot of the film.
Performances: Emraan Hashmi as carefree cop Nikhil Abhyankar is just perfect in his role and looks effortless. Randeep Hooda impresses as a journalist. Kangana Ranaut as Maya wins us with her girl next door role. Neil Bhoopalam and Angad Bedi are good too. Though Sanjay Dutt's cop character reminds us of 'Policegiri', the actor is apt in his role. However one wishes there was more to his character. Neha Dhupia is decent in what was expected out of her character. A special mention for Mahesh Manjrekar and Arunoday Singh. They make the film more gripping.Shraddha Kapoor in Dance Basanti is sensuous and her chemistry with Emraan needs to be watched!
Direction: Rensil D'Silva does it again. He keeps the film crisp and exactly knows when to not drag it further. Milap Zaveri's intelligent and quirky dialogues keep you entertained and force you to woot at certain points. However, the climax of the film takes it to another level. A well thought of a concept.
Combo on offer: Drama + Action + Adventure + Comedy = Watch the film for its innovative take on corruption
Final Verdict: We give the film Claps for its effortless entertainment.
