Varun Sharma: Sonam Kapoor was a Cherry on the Cake for me!

Varun Sharma as Chucha entertained us in his debut film 'Fukrey' and now the young lad is gearing up for his second film 'Dolly Ki Doli' opposite B-town's fashionista Sonam Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao and Pulkit Samrat. In a quick meet, Varun talks about his role, working with Sonam Kapoor and more!

How did 'Dolly Ki Doli' happen to you?

I was in Thailand for a shoot and there I came to know that Arbaaz Khan wanted to speak to me. I have been a huge admirer of the entire Khan family and for Arbaaz sir to give me a call and speak to me for the film was a huge thing. When I actually sat down for the narration, I loved the character. And then when I got to know that Sonam is also cast in the film, it was a cherry on the cake for me.

How is Arbaaz Khan as a producer?

Arbaaz sir is one of the most humble persons I have met. When did the film start and end is something we didn't really understand. He has pampered us all. In fact, it will now be difficult to work with other producers!

Were you at any point intimidated by Sonam Kapoor?

Before I had met Sonam, I used to think pata nahi kaisi hogi and all. But the first workshop before the film shoot started helped us break the ice. From my side, I used to dress nicely before going in front of Sonam Kapoor. But she is such a warm person and she makes sure everyone is comfortable. The experience with her was very chilled out.

This was your second film with Pulkit Samrat. How was the experience?

It was tough working with Pulkit in this film. In 'Fukrey' we were together and our role also demanded us to be the best of friends but in 'Dolly Ki Doli' we are not friends. It took us a while to realize that our roles are different in 'Dolly Ki Doli'. Nevertheless, it was super fun. We have an amazing rapport.

Both your films - 'Fukrey' and now 'Dolly Ki Doli' sees you play a typical Delhi boy. Don't you fear being typecasted?

I don't fear being typecast because for an actor first of all it is necessary to be casted (laughs), especially for a new comer who doesn't have a family background in the film fraternity. So to get an opportunity to play a Delhi boy in my first film was great. DKD also sees me as the Delhi boy but the character is different. Though the style is same, the approach is different.

How did you gel with Rajkummar Rao on the sets?

Rajkummar is amazing and one of the finest actors, we have all seen it. I didn't know he has such a brilliant comic timing. On the other hand, Pulkit in this film will also be seen in a different avatar. So gelling in was easy and hopefully it will turn out well in the film too.

What was your reaction when a song like Babaji Ka Thullu was to be shot?

Babaji ka Thullu is a great term and when I heard it for the first time, I could relate to it. It talks about all those things that people face in real life. Everyone has gone through it and has got a Babaji Ka Thullu in love at least once. I have loved the quirkiness and madness of the track.

Have you met a dolly in real life?

Never met any dolly in real life, but I desperately want to meet one. I have never been conned in life but one should get a person like Dolly once in life because such people teach a lot of things. But I have got Babaji Ka Thullu in love.
