life and career
Here's a director who is known for making typical "Bollywood" dramas. A director who managed to break the sterotype and became a brand in himself- Karan Johar. He started working as an assistant director and even tried his hand at acting with 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge'. While everyone considered his first directorial veture 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, a cult movie, as a fluke; he proved everyone wrong with his second outing 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham' which bought together the three biggest stars of the industry- Amitabh Bachchan, SRK and Hrithik Roshan. While his 'Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna' was not a typical family entertainer, the director moved out of his comfort zone and delivered his best film till date- 'My Name Is Khan'. Though he runs Dharma Productions successfully as a producer, establishing the company amongst the top production houses, he does not leave opportunities to direct movies everytime he comes up with a script! His last release was 'Student Of The Year'. Johar also impressed all with his villaenous performance in 'Bombay Velvet'. He is currently busy shooting for his next directorial venture- 'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil' starring Ranbir Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Anushka Sharma.
