Actor Aamir Khan was highly impressed, when he watched Shonali Bose's 'Margarita With A Straw' starring Kalki Koechlin. He was high on praise for every aspect of the film, be it the acting, direction, narrative or manner of storytelling. Aamir even reached out to her and discussed the film in detail. He had an hour long conversation, where they discussed various facets of the film.
He even suggested Shonali a new title, for its theatrical release in India. He shared that, changing the name would create a connect with Indian audience, who, otherwise would be apprehensive of watching the film, thinking that it's an English film.
Shonali bought into his viewpoint and they discussed title names. Aamir even suggested the name 'Choo Ne Chali Aasman'. He thought that, the title would signify the coming of age of the female protagonist, Laila. So Shonali, along with her team went back to the drawing board, and worked out creatives for the film with the new title.

Meanwhile, the film has been gaining several accolades at film festivals internationally. Recently they won awards at the Toronto Film Festival and Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival. Not only that, but they also won standing ovations at several film festivals. With the positive word of mouth, the team had a rethink.However, they did not want to dilute the credibility of the film and confuse the audiences with a new name. So, they finally decided to retain the name 'Margarita with a Straw'.
When Shonali reached out to Aamir to share her thoughts, the actor agreed with her feedback. In fact, he also extended support to the film in any possible.
Last week, Aamir had launched the movie. It is a tale of a young girl, suffering from cerebral palsy who travels to New York, and finds love.
