Kalki Koechlin's 'Margarita With A Straw' received a phenomenal response in the domestic release after achieving accolades in various international film festivals. Recently, the film even bagged the Best Film Award at the Washington, DC International Film Festival.
Ringing in more than 5 crores and going strong at the Indian Box Office at the end of the second week, the film with its increasing word of mouth and positive reviews has witnessed a rise in demand among audiences.
Earlier, the film was released in metro cities in a limited fashion. However, after the first weekend itself, the exhibitors increased the number of shows and added centres like Kanpur, Allahbad, Lucknow, Dehradun, Siliguri, Darjeeling, Durgapore, Rajkot, Hubli, Lonawala, Goa and Chinchwad.
In fact, the rights of the film have already been sold in territories like USA, Japan, Korea and Spain. With a high return on investment, this small film with a big heart has paid off for Viacom 18 Motion Pictures.
