Last Friday did not witness any boom at the domestic box office. Khoobsurat featuring Sonam Kapoor and Dawwat-e-Ishq featuring Parineeti Chopra & Aditya Roy Kapoor failed to raise any storm at the box office. Trade pundits never had high hopes from both the films but the opening was predicted around 35-40%. The actual situation turned out to be much worse.
Daawat-e-Ishq did marginally better than Khoobsurat but that was primarily coz of the elaborate marketing campaign woven around the film by YRF. The former opened with about 3.75 Crores on Friday whereas Khoobsurat made about 2.75 Crores.
Khoobsurat raked way better reviews than that of Daawat-e-Ishq but unfortunately that did not convert into numbers. Both the movies witnessed slight growth over the weekend but didn't woo much. While Daawat-e-Ishq made about 13.5-14 Crores in its 1st weekend at the domestic box office, Khoobsurat did about 11.5-12 Crores.
Thanks to positive word on mouth and reviews, Khoobsurat it seems, has a better chance that that of Daawat-e-Ishq over its 1st week. With no crucial releases lined up for this week chances are that the movies will do a decent 2 weeks business at the domestic box office.
Stay tuned for more box office updates.
