Nawazuddin Siddiqui has been around in Bollywood for almost a decade but the actor has started receiving his due recently. The versatile actor is now gearing up for his next film, ‘Badlapur’ along with Varun Dhawan, Huma Qureshi among others.
Ask him about his character and Nawazuddin reveals, “My character in ‘Badlapur’ is positive. There is a lot of humour in it. How one can create humour even in a dark and intense situation, is what my character is about.”
He further disclosed, "The story is about two people. If you go colour wise, one is red, blue and then the colour changes. Then there is a transformation in both characters. One character, who is good turns bad and the other character which is bad turns good."
When quizzed about his experience on working with a junior actor like Varun Dhawan, he said, "When you are working together, there is no junior and senior. When you do a scene, your character should be seen and not that he is a junior or he is a superstar. If you think this, you are disrespecting his work and you aren't considering him as a character. So, when I am working with someone, I see my co-actor and the character. That is what I think. Till now, I have learnt this only."
Going with the buzz of the film, one may notice that the makers have kept Varun Dhawan in the limelight. Ask him if that makes him feel overshadowed and Siddiqui admits, "I never felt overshadowed. In ‘Sarfarosh’, I had done a 40 seconds role only. When I get a part, I have a competition with myself that can I reach to the director's sensibilities or no. This is my main struggle. Even if I am doing a film today, I apply the same process. I don't pay attention to who overshadows whom."
Also starring Yami Gautam, Huma Qureshi, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Divya Dutta, Radhika Apte, Vinay Pathak and others, ‘Badlapur’ is directed by Sriram Raghavan and produced by Dinesh Vijan and Sunil Lulla. The film releases today.
