In a candid chat with trade analyst Komal Nahta, director Rohit Shetty finally opened up about what went wrong with his last outing ‘Dilwale’ and his honest confession will win all your respect!
Shetty stated that ‘Dilwale’ is the only movie he made without conviction; and also went on to say that he is to be held responsible for the failure- just like the way he is credited for his films becoming successful.
Talking about what went wrong with the film, Shetty said that the original script was about three brothers and stuck to Rohit Shetty’s typical brand of cinema filled with loads of rib-tickling humour.
He further added that Kajol’s role was supposed to be of 4-5 scenes that would have only been a part of a few flashbacks.
However, Shetty made last minute changes in order to cater to the audiences who are fans of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s romance, thereby adding 40 minutes of their romantic angle and letting go what could have made the film a bigger hit amongst the junta!
He also added that the film was supposed to be a stylized flick a la ‘Gone In 60 Seconds’.
How we wish SRK does another film with Shetty and the two make history all over again the way they did with ‘Chennai Express’ back in 2013- minus caring about catering to a particular section of the audience!
