Fresh pairings seem to be the current flavour in Bollywood. Be it Arjun Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan in 'Ki & Ka', Sidharth Malhotra and Katrina Kaif in 'Baar Baar Dekho', Ranbir Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in 'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil' to name a few. And now we have Sidharth Malhotra teaming up with 'Akira' girl Sonakshi Sinha for the remake of B.R Chopra's iconic thriller 'Ittefaq'.
In an interview to Bollywood Hungama Sid confirmed that the film will go on floors next year. He said, "Yes, I and Sonakshi are doing the 'Ittefaq' remake. It's directed by B.R Chopra's grandson Abhay Chopra. Obviously we are adapting the twist. It's a different film but the main premise is same. I think we are reviving a genre which is dead, which is a murder mystery. I have not seen a murder mystery made in Indian cinema in the longest time. It will be made next year. I am pretty excited about it."
The original flick starred Rajesh Khanna, Nanda and Sujit Kumar. It revolved around an artist who is arrested for the murder of his wife whom he had thrown off in a moment of frustrated rage when she distracts him from his painting and stormed out of the house. When he returns, she is dead and her sister, Bindu's testimony convicts him of the crime. He manages to break free from the hospital where he is being psychologically evaluated and breaks into the house of a rich woman only to find himself implicated in the murder of her husband.
We are quite excited to see Sid doing for a murder mystery for the first time. Stay tuned for more interesting updates.
