Varun Dhawan: Salman Khan had done 'Tere Naam' from his Heart!

Varun Dhawan is winning praises from all quarters for his dark role in Sriram Raghavan's 'Badlapur'. Since Varun has mostly done commercial entertainers and has always played the lover boy kind of roles in films like 'Student of The Year', 'Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania' and 'Main Tera Hero', 'Badlapur' came as a pleasant surprise for many.

Ask Varun was he ever skeptical to play such a role and he reveals, “I was 100 % scared. And Dinu (Dinesh Vijan) had said that I might scare children away and stuff like that. But I think we have a lot of intelligent people in our country. They know that this is just a character and I don't actually roam around with a hammer. I am quite friendly. I am doing a lot of stuff for the kids, there is 'ABCD 2' which is totally a kids film and there is another film that's going to be announced soon. There is a lot for the kids ahead, but 'Badlapur' is something for the adults, something for the people who thought I was cheesy.”

Interestingly, Varun had recently revealed that Salman Khan's 'Tere Naam' character had inspired him for this film. Not just that but Bollywood bhai Salman also praised Varun for his look and acting in 'Badlapur', on twitter.

Probe Varun how does he feel about it and he admits, “Obviously very special, Salman bhai is someone that I have grown up idolizing and watching.”

However, he is quick to clarify on what he meant by being inspired from Salman's 'Tere Naam' character.

“What I meant by 'Tere Naam' was the type of career Salman bhai has had and the type of film 'Tere Naam' is & the type of subject it is, he need not have done it. It's not something that you'll say, oh, this is a Salman Khan film. Kaafi tedi film hai, still he did it and it worked very well. So I got that belief, inspiration and I felt that I can go out and make these decisions because people before me have always made these difficult decisions and they have paid off and I know that 'Tere Naam' was a film Salman bhai had done from his heart at that point. So, 'Badlapur' is a film that I have done from my heart. I was going through something when I had signed this film and during this film, and hopefully, it will show,” concluded Varun.

Directed by Sriram Raghavan, 'Badlapur' also stars Yami Gautam, Huma Qureshi, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Divya Dutta in the lead. 'Badlapur' releases on February 20, 2015.
