Direction has always been an integral and major part of the film we see on screen. It is the dream of one man and his coordination with all the other departments and production to make his vision a historic saga. While some have manages to achieve a legendary status, some did not have a vision that connected well with the audiences.
And one such man, who became a legend in the world of film-making, was Guru Dutt. He had his own style of direction and handling the entire movie, a style that was his individual and symbolic one! And amongst thousand of his fans is director-producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra, who himself has had a unique style of directing and producing movies that have always taken the Hindi cinema a step ahead. His vision too, is much greater than the mere box office numbers and four days of newspaper publicity.
Vidhu Vinod Chopra always held the dream of educating the current world of filmmaking students with how he and many other great filmmakers make their movies, by publishing screenplay books of some of the memorable classic. While he already has his ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’ and ‘3 Idiots’ screenplay book published, the man has taken a step ahead and would be releasing the screenplays of Guru Dutt’s three magnum opuses- ‘Saheb, Bibi Aur Ghulam’, ‘Kaagaz Ke Phool’ and ‘Chaudhvin Ka Chand’.
And not just that the launch of these books would be done a special manner. Oh yes, the three film directors namely Farhan Akhtar, Dibakar Bannerjee and Anurag Kashyap, who have always managed to stand class apart from everyone else, would be seen as a part of a discussion panel along with Chopra during the launch of the book that takes place on 23rd February in one of the city hotels.
It is always a sheer delight to see talented and visionary film makers give knowledge and motivation to the industry and those who are willing to learn, than film makers who are always caught up in the showbiz and busy counting numbers.
