Recently, in an interview to a leading daily, Vidya Balan had confessed that she would love to play Indira Gandhi on-screen. Now, it has been reported that 'Rahasya' director Manish Gupta has approached the actress for a biopic on the former Prime Minister.
However, Vidya is a bit skeptical about it despite liking it. Manish says, "She has liked the script, but hasn’t given a go-ahead yet. Given that the film is on Indira Gandhi, there are precautions needed to be taken before we start.”
He further adds that he is yet to receive approval on the script from the Gandhi family. The project has been titled 'Indira'. He further reveals, "My film will be a tell-all tale about Indira Gandhi — right from her birth to her assassination. It’s the story of her childhood, youth, rise to power as the Prime Minister of India, her fall to near-oblivion, her comeback as PM, her final battle against extremists and her refusal to discriminate on the lines of faith, that eventually led to her assassination.”
However, the director hasn't approached anyone for the roles of Indira's sons Rajeev and Sanjay Gandhi though he says that his film would be incomplete without these two characters.
We look forward to see Vidya in yet another path-breaking role!
